Retro Disneyland Nursery
When I started planning for my daughter’s nursery, I knew that I wanted to include “It’s a Small World” in the decor. As I started collecting things, I realized that I wanted to include even more Disneyland attractions throughout the room. These two ideas came together to make a Disneyland themed nursery with Mary Blair era flair. I love all things Disneyland but didn’t want the room to look like an explosion of Disney merch. I've embraced minimalism more and more this year while being at home so much. I’ve learned that I like big wall statements opposed to lots of little frames and decor. I’m moving through our house trying to adopt this technique in each space, but the nursery was the first full room that I got to refresh completely.
With this being my second kiddo, the room focus definitely shifted to functionality. Space for all of the toys, books, incoming clothes, etc.
I love the Montessori Storage look, and found this perfect cube organizer at Ikea that is really sturdy and works great. The little basket trays that display a few toys and books came as a box set at Ikea. Baskets hide some of the loose teething toys, swaddles and a play mat.
This little Fantasyland section was inspired by this art print I found on Etsy. I loved the retro look of it and that it was downloadable! The vintage looking scalloped shelves were found at Hobby Lobby to tie in the fantasyland vibes. A sweet homemade crown from my Aunt, some sparkling slippers and beautiful Mary Blair books to tie it all together.
Some Adventureland fun and a sweet view of the ferris wheel! My sister found those cute mini stuffed animals in the Target dollar section before we knew what we were having. I knew immediately I wanted to have some Jungle Cruise fun with them. I painted the Ikea Flisat shelf as the boat and two of the Target dollar section scallop shelves as the canopy. The cute Adventureland print was another Etsy find, and comes in lots of different Land options. You can find the tutorial for the Mickey Ferris Wheel made from the Ikea prize wheel here.
One of the first wall installations I planned for the room were these Mickey balloons. I originally planned to purchase balloon wall lights but because of the price, came up with this alternative. There are lots of fun knit wall names and shapes on Pinterest and I thought I could use the same technique to make the Mickey balloons. You can find a video tutorial on that here. I love the whimsy and softness that they add to this blank slate wall.
Libby’s name banner was inspired by this Disney family tutorial. My awesome sister made it out of felt and stitched it together as a special gift for our girl.

Why are rugs soooo hard to find??? The right amount of pattern, the color, the size, and the prices, yikes! I searched and searched until I found this retro rug on Overstock and waited for a sale. It Is unbelievably soft and plush. So happy with it!
The Monorail Mural! This has become my favorite wall in the whole house. This has been the one benefit to pregnancy insomnia because this idea came to me at 3am. I love banyan bridges stripes and have incorporated them in projects throughout our house. I knew I wanted some kind of wall installment that would break up the wall at about 3/4 of the way up. I considered board and batten, shiplap, and a paint barrier but then I came across this picture on pinterest.
I loved that it added dimension to the wall and created a good ledge shelf. This one was made to function as a radiator cover. We didn’t need to cover anything and making a smaller version cut down the cost, so we decide on this mini version. It’s made from MDF pieces and painted the same color as the wall. Below is a look of the shelf unpainted.
This magical mobile is made out of embroidery hoops, trims and Christmas ornaments! If you’re looking for an inexpensive way to make a mobile, felt Christmas ornaments are a great way to cut costs. These cute cotton candies came from the Hobby Lobby Christmas section. The print is from the gallery in Downtown Disney. The Matterhorn is one of my favorite rides, and I loved the coloring that was used for this print!
The chandelier is from a shop that I adore, Sazerac Stitches! Their work is so unique and beautiful. The best part is that everything they make is made to order and they’ll work with you to make a custom piece. This chartreuse color was perfect to tie everything together. This piece is their Loa Carousel fixture. We are getting so excited to see Libby in this space! Hoping that it inspires her to be creative and dream big!
